This page gives the solution of the following problem:

Given a circular surface of radium R, and a set of veneer sheets of maximum width L, determine the minimum even number of sections to cover the entire surface

With reference to the figure at the side (where 2 x L2 = L, width of available veneer sheets), the number of sections needed is given by the formula:
