TEMPLATE FOR CUTTING
1. Draw a grid on a large piece of card to fit all of the shapes above. With a pencil and eraser copy the coffee table shapes according to the shapes shown here, or shapes of your own choice. Once you are happy with the shapes, cut them out.
2. Trace your templates on to the plywood corresponding to the above picture.
3. Glue the eight pieces of wood together in each leg set, and the four pieces for the stretcher rail.

4. Mark and cut out the 38mm wide rebates that houses the stretcher rail as shown in A. A full 'haunch joint' may be used by cutting a matching rebate in the underside of the stretcher rail as shown in B.
5. Grip the work piece firmly and start by shaping away the steps in the plywood.
6. Now gradually shape the surface all over by rounding edges. There is scope to shape and form the wood in alternative ways if you prefer.
7. The Arbortech flexible Grinder Sanding Kit is used towards the end of shaping and is used to cut away all the tool marks and allow you to fine shape and adjust the final profiles. After 40 grit, use 80 grit and then hand sand. Use an expoxy glue to glue the haunch joints into the two leg sets. Two "G" clamps are required.
8. To obtain a good finish, first seal the pores of the wood with either a cellulose or oil sealing compound. They are called grain sealers and obtainable from woodworking suppliers. Apply a generous coat with a rag. Allow this to dry and sand lightly with a fine sand paper or course wire wool. Apply another sparing coat of sealer with a rag, allow to dry. Apply a finish of your choice.
The glass measures 1000 X 700 X 9mm (39 1/2" X 27 1/2" X 3/8") and is held in position by resting on 4 glass cushion pads.
